What do you get when you mix ice cubes, paint, brushes, water, baby oil, glitter, soap, and a room full of curious children? You get fun, experimentation, learning, and class projects. Yes, there was a little bit of mess, but it was all worth it for the lessons learned.

Our young scholars made Thanksgiving turkeys to commemorate this season of giving thanks. They used glue, construction paper, googly eyes, feathers, and a healthy dose of creativity and imagination to end up with refrigerator-magnet-worthy artwork. Look at the photos below!
Making play dough is a hands-on activity which engages the children in tactile learning. Mixing, rolling, and cutting up play dough helps with hand coordination and fine motor skills, which is an important pre-writing skill.
We were invited by Groundswell to the “Voices Her’d Community Paint Day” on Junius Street, on the side of the Food Bazaar. This year at summer camp, students at MOHDC SmartStart Nature Academy and Learning Center are exposed to a wide variety of creative and visual arts projects. From dance, to painting, to crafting, to theater, there is a lot of exciting activity going on.
We always have the happiest campers in Brooklyn because we have sidewalk chalk! Everyone wants to play when we bring these out. Children can draw and color with these safe, non-toxic chalks and they wash away easily.
